Move software projects forward.

I help businesses and teams unblock projects, shape product ideas and use AI where it makes sense — from decisions through to implementation.

Over 30 years of professional software experience, starting during my computer science studies and including IBM and PwC. Based in Hamburg, still hands-on with code.

How I can help

Questions Decisions

International project experience

Architecture for complex projects.

Before that: international IBM projects and IT strategy consulting at PwC, with a focus on financial services.

While studying computer science, I was already working on software projects. From 1993 to 1996, I was a project lead at Management Systems, working on billing systems for associations of statutory health insurance physicians.

More about my background

Zurich · IBM · 2009–2014

Five years on a large banking project

As a system software architect at IBM, I worked on the Vista project in Zurich. Architecture and specifications were developed in collaboration with the teams involved.

What I bring forward

On complex projects, technical decisions, requirements and responsibilities need to be clear to everyone involved. Today I combine that experience with hands-on work on software and products.

More client project experience

Examples from my CV; the clients are deliberately left unnamed here.

Modernisation · 2022

Developing an older app further

For a German furniture comparison portal, I worked on migrating a Flutter app from version 1 to 3. The work included substantial refactoring, extended analytics and coaching for the internal team.

Frontend development · 2017–2019

Modernising an insurance portal

As lead developer for the frontend of a German insurance company, I worked on moving existing web interfaces to React.

A look at my work

Decisions that make a difference.

Two documented examples from my own projects show how I approach technical questions. They are not client references.

Kinpal: architecture for a live alert

The situation
The alert needed location updates on a live map. The first design used Cloudflare KV for those updates.
The decision
Research revealed limits on write frequency and freshness. I chose a separate storage area for each alert and a direct connection to the live map.
What emerged
The alert server uses one Durable Object per alert and WebSockets for the live map. The project story also describes app-store progress at the time of writing.

One control room for six computers

The situation
Six computers with AI agents produced separate conversations and repeated questions.
The decision
A shared control room gathers proposals; I make the approval decisions, and only predefined commands can be executed.
What emerged
In the first documented run, four cleanups were approved and the project story reports about 78 GB freed.

Own products

Experience & approach

Think clearly. Move forward together.

I’m Uli Diedrichsen. I have worked professionally in software since my computer science studies — at IBM and PwC, on client projects and on my own products. I combine technical understanding with product thinking and use AI where it makes a useful contribution.
